Sugar Shack season is coming soon in some regions of Canada and because we are the biggest maple syrup producer, why not try new and unexpected recipes to incorporate this national treasure? To do so, I have gathered 10 recipes you can try at home which will totally delight your family and guests. But before I do so, let’s review some facts about maple syrup.

Health Benefits of Maple Syrup

Pure and free of any colouring additives, maple syrup is a healthy sweetener 100% natural in comparison to white sugar which is typically derived from sugar cane and processed and purified before being sold. For this reason, maple syrup can be used as a healthier substitute to sugar.

To use maple syrup in place of white or brown sugar, Pure Canada Maple recommends the following:

• For every 1 cup of granulated sugar, substitute 2/3 cup of maple syrup.
• Reduce the quantity of liquid ingredients in the recipe (water, milk, juice) by about 1/4 cup.
• Lower the baking temperature by 25° F.

But why is it good for your health? Well, according to Dr. Axe, maple syrup has the following benefits:

• Has lower score on the glycemic Index
• Fights inflammatory diseases
• May help protect against cancer
• Helps protect skin health
• Alternative to sugar for improved digestion
• Supplies important vitamins and minerals
• Is a healthier alternative to artificial sweeteners
