Danby Appliances took on the challenge and the result: two Red Dot Design Awards for their Contemporary Classic line of compact refrigerators.

What’s so Great About These Mini Fridges?

Aside from the Contemporary Classic’s one-of-a-kind look, Danby made sure to get every detail right on these compact fridges – right down to the door hinges. Here are just a few features you’ll find on the Contemporary Classic you won’t find on most other compact refrigerators.

Retro-Inspired Curved Door

Curving the door meant fewer units per truck and the dramatic impression at the top of the door reduced critical space for insulation. Problems worth solving if it meant an exclusive product consumers could proudly display in their homes. The curved door is also what gives the Contemporary Classic its signature look. Blending new and old proves appealing to a broad consumer base. Perfect for nostalgic boomers; Instagram-ready for discriminate millennials.

Upside-Down Door Handle (or Right-Side Up?)

The door handle on the Contemporary Classic looks different because it’s upside down. Yet, grabbing the door this way, with your palm facing forward, proves to be more ergonomic. Another benefit to this flipped-handle design is that it hides the door hinges, creating the seamless, retro look and feel we all love.

All-Black Interior

What’s that saying? Never wear white pants to a mustard party. The same rule should apply to the interior of your compact fridge. If you’re going to be storing messy condiments or drinks happen to spill, having an all-black interior will show the mess less than white. Another benefit to the all-black interior is it illuminates better than white. The Contemporary Classic is one of the few compact refrigerators that features cool white LED lighting.

CanStor® Beverage Storage

A common complaint from consumers about drink dispensers in mini fridges is that drinks fall down when one gets removed – shaking the contents of the drink, potentially resulting in a mess. Danby solved this problem years ago with their proprietary CanStor® beverage holder design. Instead of stacking cans the old fashion way, cans rest in the CanStor® holders, nicely organized, and set at an angle that optimizes fridge space.

Swap the Crisper for a BevyBox®

Danby has nothing against vegetables, but their market research finds most consumers use their compact’s crisper to store drinks, not food. Danby used this information and swapped the crisper for another Red Dot Design winner, the BevyBox®. The BevyBox® holds 10 cans and removes like a personal drink caddy. Integrated gel cooling packs can be easily inserted to keep beverages cool while you relax.
